I’m so excited to share a little behind the scenes from a new project I’m working on… Watercolor Cakes! I’ll share the final project soon but for now, here’s a little sneak peek of the paintings.

I like to start with little sketches so I know how the layout with look. I don’t always sketch but when it’s for a project I usually do. The only downside to sketching is the time it takes in Photoshop to clean up the pencil lines in the scans. It’s totally acceptable to have pencil lines in Watercolor Art but since my artwork starts out small it seems like the pencil lines stand out more, just my preference.

I usually have two glasses of water when I paint, one for water to rinse my brushes that gets muddy and gross and the other to mixed my paints. I tend to get clean water a couple times during a painting session too. I almost drank my paint water once so I try to have a cup with a lid if I’m going to have a drink at the table.

I prefer to use watercolor pans, my fav paints are from Winsor & Newton, I have several different brands I play with as well. Winsor & Newton Pan watercolors are easy to take anywhere but the tubes can be easier to use since they’re already ‘wet’.

Stay tuned for the finished project!
